Central Coast have claimed the 2019 Country Cricket NSW Kookaburra Cup Championship with a comprehensive 9 wicket win over North Coastal at Albury today.
After losing the toss, Central Coast were in the field first and made immediate inroads into the North Coastal batting with opening bowlers Daniel Thompson and Campbell Crossfield having North Coastal 3/7, a start that they were not able to recover from and eventually were dismissed for 109.
Thompson finished an excellent carnival with the figures of 3/10 off his 6 overs, whilst Bailey Lidgard also picked up two wickets.
Chasing a moderate total, Central Coast openers, Jordan McDonald and Joseph Merlino put on 47 runs for the first wicket before McDonald was dismissed for 27. Tyler Searle joined Merlino and the pair were able to pass the total without the loss of any further wickets to record an emphatic win for the Central Coast.
Merlino finished unbeaten on 32 and Searle on 35.
The win capped a fantastic week for the team which saw Central Coast complete the carnival undefeated.
In addition to this Thompson was named Player of the Carnival.
Full credit goes to the coaching staff of Glenn Rowlands and Chad Soper as well as the Manager, Peter Slominski.
The victory was also just reward for the players who not only performed well during the week but also did the hard work in preparing for the Carnival.
